Night markets in Phuket Town

Updated

Phuket Town has a night market every evening: Old Town's walking street on Sundays, Indy Market from Wednesday to Friday, Chillva from Monday to Saturday, and Naka's weekend market on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Sunday: Lard Yai, the walking street on Thalang Road in Old Town, 16:00–22:00, free to walk in.
  • Wednesday to Friday: Indy Market, at the Old Town's north-east edge, 16:00–22:30.
  • Monday to Saturday: Chillva Market, on Yaowarat Road north-west of the Old Town, 17:00–23:00.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Naka Weekend Market, west of the Old Town, 16:00–22:00, most of it under cover.

Markets change their hours now and then, and heavy rain can call one off, so check on the day. This guide covers the markets in and around Phuket Town; the beach towns have markets of their own, which it doesn't cover yet.

Lard Yai, the Sunday walking street

Every Sunday from 16:00, Thalang Road becomes a walking street of stalls until 22:00: local food, crafts, clothes and plants, with music and shows along the way. It's free, and it runs down the middle of Old Town, between the shophouses.

Very heavy rain can call it off: one Sunday's market was cancelled when Old Town flooded in October 2022.

Indy Market

Indy Market opens Wednesday to Friday, 16:00–22:30. In 2024 the Michelin Guide described it as a quieter night market, popular with young Thais for its entertainment and homemade snacks. It sets up at the Old Town's north-east edge, about 250 m from Thalang Road, so an evening in Old Town can end there on foot.

Chillva Market

Chillva opens Monday to Saturday, 17:00–23:00, and is closed on Sundays. In 2024 the Michelin Guide called it a trendy night market with a bohemian feel, for food, fashion and souvenirs. It's on Yaowarat Road, about 3 km north-west of Thalang Road as the crow flies, so take a car rather than walk.

Naka Weekend Market

Naka Weekend Market, also called the Phuket Weekend Market, opens on Saturday and Sunday, 16:00–22:00. The Michelin Guide called it the island's largest night market in 2024. Most of it is under cover, the market says, which helps on a wet weekend evening. On weekdays a street-food market runs there instead, Monday to Friday, 16:00–21:00. It's on Wirat Hong Yok Road, west of the Old Town: a short drive.

What you'll find to eat

Much of every market is food: seafood grilled to order, skewers, fruit, drinks and sweets.
