Isha19:1819:17–20:05

These are the Sheikhul Islam Office's own times, from its timetable for Phuket. It publishes one for each province; Phuket's is worked out for Promthep Cape, at the island's southern tip, and covers the whole province.

Prayer apps that use another method can differ by several minutes, most at Fajr and Isha. The office doesn't publish its method, but Fajr at 20° below the horizon and Isha at 18° give every time in its table to within a minute. To match Thailand's official times, set your app to those angles.

Asr here is the Shafi'i time. In the Hanafi school it begins later: today, at about 16:29. Follow the view you hold.

Thailand has no summer time, and through the year each prayer moves by at most 48 minutes, as Phuket is close to the equator.

Mosques you can reach

The Islamic Committee of Phuket lists 59 mosques in the province, most of them in Thalang, the north of the island. These are the ones nearest the places visitors stay:

  • Phuket Town: Yameay Mosque, the green-domed mosque on Taling Chan Road near Surin Circle, open 04:00–20:00. Its main hall is one floor up from the street. Al-Madinah Mosque is at Saphan Ruam, also in town.
  • Patong: Nurul Islam, the town's main mosque, at 83 Phrabaramee Road, a 10-minute walk from Bangla Road, and Nurul Huda, also by Phrabaramee Road.
  • Kamala: Kamala Mosque, in the village.
  • Bang Tao: Mukarram Mosque, in Ban Bang Tao.
  • Rawai: Nuruddiniyah Mosque, on Wiset Road. The register lists no mosque in Chalong.

If friends who aren't Muslim come with you, Yameay Mosque asks women to cover their hair and wear long, loose clothes, and men to dress modestly.

Friday prayer

Friday prayer is held in place of Dhuhr, whose time here begins between 12:11 and 12:42 through the year. Each mosque sets its own start, so ask the day before. On Fridays 600 to 800 people come to Yameay Mosque, and its top floor is used too.

Prayer rooms: the airport and the malls

  • Phuket airport: the Muslim prayer room is on floor 3, by entrance 1, in the public area, so pray before you go through security. It's open all day and night.
  • Jungceylon, in Patong: in the basement car park, near the Thairapy entrance.
  • Central Phuket: the mall lists a prayer room; ask the information desk where it is.

Which way to face

From Phuket, the qibla is about 290° from true north, west-north-west: face west, then turn about 20° to your right. The Sheikhul Islam Office's figure for Phuket agrees. A compass or qibla app will show it.

Ramadan and Eid in Phuket

In Thailand, the Sheikhul Islam Office sets the start of Ramadan after looking for the new moon, so the dates can differ from home. In 2026, Ramadan began here on 19 February, a day after Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

In the Gulf, Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin about 8 February, Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March and Eid al-Adha on 16 or 17 May, all depending on the moon. Thailand may start a day later.

In those first days, Fajr in Phuket is at 05:27 and Maghrib at 18:37: a fast of about 13 hours.
